Page 1 of 2 Congratulations for winning the August 2007 Zuwharrie Owner Of the Month! How does it feel being honored along with the past winners? Well there certainly are some hard acts to follow, thats for sure, especially the likes of last months winner (Art). But I'm proud to have been chosen from the pack of great folks on the board.
So tell us about you. Who are you, & where do you live? I'm 33, married to the wonderful Ladybcrewcaptain (Dee) and live in Keswick, Va (just outside of Charlottesville). We inhabit a small house in a (for now) semi-rural neighborhood with our 3 dogs and a few select fish.
How did you get started in Suzuki's? I've always liked the little things, my Dad had an '87 convertible back in the day and I loved driving that little underpowered beast. The fire was fueled a couple years back when we were looking for a small 4WD vehicle to tow behind the RV so we could get out on the beach, I was planning on a stocker, I came home with a tintop on 33's, and its gone from there. Any changes in store for your rig? The tintop the only changes will be when I see somebody else driving it. I've run out of space in the driveway and frankly, the new rig has spoiled me.
The "new"rig, honestly there are very few things I'd change, I'll buy my own winch so I don't have to run a borrowed one, as soon as it arrives I'm installing the windshield folddown kit. Other than a little more tubework and some racing seats/harnesses, thats going to be it for now, its all I wanted, very capable trail rig and still gets put on the road several days a week! If you could have anybody else's Zuk, who's would it be and why? I would say if anyones it would be Jimmy's (BlueRidgeRunner) rig. His is basically what I had hoped this last rig would be. stock axles, YJ's with missing links and 33's, nice, basic, very capable, street legal, and can still fit in those tiny spots. What has been your best wheeling adventure? Crozet has been where I have had the most fun other than the beach (doesn't really count as wheeling on the sand I guess). Zu on the Rocks was a blast, that was my "shakedown" run with the new rig, I havent really had a chance to run a rig this capable in a while, and having to do it in such as controlled enviroment (a comp course), was a real eye opener. It really gave a chance to test what the rig was built to do, and seemed to make it with flying colors, and gave me the chance to learn even more about lines and spotting well beyond what you have to do on the trails at Zuwharrie and such. I've heard that one of the stipulations of selling you a rig is that the previous owner must fix it when it breaks (did I ask that right, Troy? ;P )
Well, in the case of the newest rig...YES! Troy set me up with an awesome rig, however he must have stock in Loc-tite and JB-Weld the way some of those parts are put together.
If you could go to any place in the world to wheel, where would that be? If they had big rocks at the Outer Banks, that would be it, love that place. I think though, doing one of the jungle "tours" would be a great deal of fun, something along the lines of what the RangeRover folks do. Not all rocks, not all mud, but a lot of different challenges! Who are you closest to in the Zuwharrie community? Wow, thats a hard one to say "closest". In the last couple years I've met a lot of great folks I'd say I was close to. Dee and I have the whole R/T and BerryBlonde posse show up to the house on a pretty regular basis, they're a great bunch of folks (even the rugrats and the ever growing number of pets), and we consider them family more than anything. Jimmy(BlueRidgeRunner) and his better half Theresa (one of the 1st Zu people I actually have met outside of the event) Jimmy and I talk pretty much daily and he's always willing to give me his idea of what I should be doing...umm..I mean advice..hehe. Troy for hooking me up with an awesome rig and trailer, boy, I hope I don't have to take anything apart on that trailer.... Patrick and Kami and their little herd of course, Patrick was the 1st Zu member I met, may have had something to do with the fact he lives 10 minutes away. and the list goes on.....
